Celebrating Life in Union is a feature documentary
about a group of Cubans former political prisoners,
their resilience and brotherhood that kept them together in their hope to one day see Cuba free.
The documentary focus on Aldo Chaviano, a 17 year-old young man who joined the Castro revolution to fight against the dictator Batista. He then fought against Castro, after Castro decided not to call for democratic elections in Cuba. Aldo was sentenced to death penalty and 19 of his friends were massacred in front of him. Aldo served 26 years in jail were he was abused and tortured. The case of Angel Alfonso, a university student that joined the revolution like Aldo to fight against Batista. After the revolution betrayed the trust of the students, Angel joined a guerrilla movement. He ended up in jail, serving 19 years. Aniceto Cuesta was poor and black. He joined the opposition in protests against Fidel Castro and was convicted to 13 years in jail. Like the others, he suffered abuse and racial discrimination for being black. The case of Aurelio Candelaria, a poor farmer boy. Like many farmers, Aurelio joined Fidel Castro to fight the dictator Batista but when the Castro regime took his land and persecuted his family, Aurelio joined the movement against Fidel Castro. He served 20 years in Fidel Castro's prisons.
We have already filmed over 30 hours of footage, and are looking for finance to complete the editing of the documentary. The total amount needed for the post-production of the documentary is $16,000. So far we have raised $4,000. The money raised will be use to pay the transcribing and translation of video footage, purchase of b-roll footage for the documentary and editing of the project. The $5,000 amount being raised at Indiegogo will be used to pay an editor to work for two month on the documentary. We are organizing other fundraising events to cover the following: Editing, music, sound cleaning, picture color correction, sound mixing, close captioned, promotion, etc.
I am an award winning producer/director of political and social documentaries. I have over 20 years of experience producing documentaries, educational and feature films. Together with Award Winning Producer/Editor Drew Oberholtzer we shot Celebrating Life in Union. We are seeking your support to complete the editing of the documentary these former political prisoners stories. It is important for the world to know about the suffering these men went through. Please help us. Without your support we will not be able to complete the documentary.

Celebrando la Vida en Unión es un documental de 90-minutos acerca de un grupo de Cubanos Ex-presos políticos, su fortaleza y hermandad que los han mantenido juntos con la esperanza de un día ver a Cuba libre. El documental se centra en Aldo Chaviano, un jovencito pobre de 17 años de edad que se unió a la revolución de Castro para luchar contra el dictador Batista pero cuando Fidel Castro decidió no llamar a elecciones en Cuba, Aldo se unió a los miles de jóvenes que regresaron a las montañas para luchar en contra de Fidel Castro. Aldo fue capturado y sentenciado a pena de muerte. El vio asesinar a 19 de sus compañeros de celda en frente de el. Ya hemos filmado más de 30 horas de material para el documental y necesitamos recaudar $16.000 para completar la post-producción del proyecto. Hasta ahora hemos recopilado $4,000 de los $16,000.
